Hello, everyone — my name is Joel and I live in Washington, DC.  I am a 43-year-old bureaucrat who carries a camera everywhere he goes.  My goal is simply to make the best photographs that I can.   I share some of my street and other photography publicly at seenandknown.tumblr.com.

After a year of shooting only in black and white, I have taken up color again.   Below are five photographs that I have made recently.  I look forward to your honest critiques.

Joel welcome friend. Really great photos, I love the drama, feels very Saul Leiter. Perhaps do a project on suits, from a bureaucratic perspective? Your style is fresh.

Love how you are playing with light.  I like the style very minimalistic not very busy. I really like the work keep it up.

Thanks, Eric and Quentin. I appreciate your kind words and the suggestion. I’m currently playing with a project on DC’s alleyways — a world where suits and non-suits meet. Also, some cool light and shadows. I look forward to seeing what others are working on as well.

I love the perfect balance between the harsh light, and the pitch black shadow part. I like your first & second photo the best, because it doesn’t involve any people, yet you managed to pull out their respective soul.
