Sony or Lumix?

Gosh, I hope someone with much more photography experience can help this old novice (68 years) decide between one of the Sony Alphas or one of the Panasonic Lumix.

Price Range:  US$500 to 750.  (Flexible)

Use:  Street, and Travel Street.

Me:  Non-professional.  Good eye; little technical.

Also, please help me with lens suggestions.

Thanks so much!   I might be in Taipei Taiwan in mid-October.  If not, then London UK.   Meet up?  Cool.

hey don; excited to have you. I’d recommend RICOH GR II

Eric!  Thanks for your welcome.   I am one of your biggest fans, always reading your blogs and posts.   I don’t think I ever sent an e-mail or message before.

It is fantastic that you recommended the Ricoh GR II.    I have been seriously considering it again, even after I thought I should go with Sony or Lumix.

I’ll let you know what I decide, but Ricoh is definitely being considered.

If you want to take a gander at some of my pics.   The Norway pics were taken with an iPhone 7 (regular, not plus).

I myself am a Sony A6000 user. I love this camera! This should be in your price range!
Pick any Sony lens to get the best out of the camera’s fast autofocus!

I absolutely love my GR ii. It’s a little camera with great results! Check the reviews on Eric’s blog and on youtube/Google.

Stef:  Thanks.   You might see above in my reply to Eric that I am also considering the GR II as well.    It really does sound perfect for my style of photography.   (Oh, I am strictly amateur.)

Some pics of mine.  Norway shots were with iPhone 7.    Should I quit my day job?   *lol*

It’s Sony any day bro.Superb resolution means awesome picture quality. By the way those clicks are awesome that you took with the iPhone 7. I guess you should take up photography as a profession. Great job!

Great pics on Flickr Don. I’d recommend the Ricoh GR II or the Sony RX100 series.

The Ricoh GR II has a fixed focal length 28mm equiv lens (same as iPhone) and the Sony RX100 series has a zoom lens.  IMO these are the best compact cameras available. Image quality is significantly better than a smart phone, while still compact enough to fit into a pocket.
