Hi guys!

Let me start off with my photo being critiqued!

My name is Steef Jordans. 31 years old and currently living in the city of Bergen op Zoom, The Netherlands.
Besides photography, my other big passion in life is rollerblading which I am doing and following for over 20 years now.
I started photography when Instagram was founded back in 2011 ( if my memory is not failing).
A couple of years ago I decided to take photography more serious, that’s when I bought my Sony A6000.
Since that moment I have been learning to take better shots on the street. What I love about street photography is that moment when you press the shutter and you know that you have that special shot!

Here is my photo for critique:

I hope you like it!

Looking forward to your critiques!

Regards

Oh, man!  That’s nice!  There’s a lot of complexity there, but you’ve managed to include all that without is seeming overly busy.  The height differential between the girl and the people in the foreground is fantastic, it plays well with their darkness vs the lightness of the girl.  One of the people in front is even wearing a watch.  C’mon!  It also gives the feeling like the two age-groups are heading different directions (emphasized by the girl’s look-back).  The only thing I can think of off the top of my head that would make it cooler, would be to include the whole “school” word in the background.  Really cool capture.  Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the critique!! What you said about the was actually one of the things I saw afterward as well. Like you said in such a busy scene it’s hard to see everything!
But that would make the picture much nicer for sure! Thanks again!!

Love the photo man. Love the story, what is the little girl looking back at.  Why does she have a suitcase?  The composition is awesome loved how you framed her in between each person. Eye draws in right to the little girl.

I really like the depth of field that you put on the picture, the adults in foreground in black and then the kid in middle ground in white. The adult going one way, the kid the other way. We can imagine a lot of stories about this simple scene. It would be perfect if you increased the highlights and make the white brighter so that the child would have popped up from the middle ground. Nice picture 🙂

  1. Layering is good
  2. You have bicycle growing out of the kid’s head. This could have been avoided by using bending your knees more and shooting from a lower point of view.
  3. Moment: looks like the moment may have happened right after you snapped the shutter.

Thanks for the critique!!
I was basically as low as could go for this shot. I had only a couple nanoseconds to take this shot.
Regarding the moment, I actually like the fact she’s looking back. For me it’s what makes the picture tell the story.

Thanks again J1m!
