How do you guys find ways to keep making art when you aren’t inspired?

I would say you should just take your camera, go outside and begin shooting. The shooting process after beginning always inspires me by itself. I’m trying to say the inspiration will come after beginning of the action.

Just a suggestion, do you have street notes? There are tons of ideas to keep yourself inspired. Also, I love Henry Carrol’s photo journal, really fun projects in that!

Hi! I simply go out and shoot, or take a pencil and start drawing. Sometimes the inspiration comes naturally: just don’t focus on your brain but follow your heart. Try and go out in a place you have never been to before or do something different: listen to music if you never shoot with music.

Very good question because it goes straight to the heart of photography.
You ask “How do you guys find ways to keep making art when you aren’t inspired?”
1st… not everybody is out to make art, i never go out with the intention to make art, actually, i don’t really know what art is,

2nd…, if i don’t want to take photos i just don’t take them, but i do take my camera just in case i see something interesting.
Maybe it’s your approach to photography that’s a bit off, i don’t go out looking for the artistic photo i look for the interesting photo, and if in that interesting photo i see action, drama, sadness, happiness, anger, etc etc then the photo to me will be better, so you see i really don’t even think of art. You could say i am a hunter of interesting photos or a collector of interesting photos.
What motivates me is the hunt and what rewards me is the catch, i hunt people mostly and sometimes sunsets, but i like people more, so my advise is don’t think about art and inspiration, but do look for your own motivation, that is something that only you can do.

A few ideas from Eric:

And for me…I definitely just try to quiet my mind and not think too much about why/what/how and just make a ‘thing’ (art, something tangible) without judgment or observation.

My best suggestions would only mirror what’s already been offered. Another though is to enjoy some decent world cinema dvds for a fresh take on things.
