How do you know when you have a great idea?

So I have this Idea for a new project. Normally I would dive in head first regardless of whether the idea is good or not, but this is a massive undertaking that could potentially take years to complete. Right now I’m pretty sure that it’s either a stroke of creative genius, or total nonsense.

This got me thinking though, how do you know when your ideas are actually good? Do you sleep on it? Run it by a trusted friend? Or do you just go with your gut? I for the life of me have no fucking clue,  but I know that I will be thinking about it for a while. In the meantime though, I’d love to hear yall’s thoughts.

I’d normally say trust in yourself and go with your gut, but if the commitment would be that significant then it might be best to run it by someone who’s judgement/opinion you trust.  I usually run ideas by my wife who is brutally honest 🙂

Think about what you have to gain, even if it turns out to be a complete failure.

e.g. Keeping yourself occupied, meeting new people, visiting new places etc.

Trust your gut. For me, I know when an idea is really good when I stop caring about whether it is really good, whether it makes sense, or what people will think and just go do ahead and do it because if I didn’t, it would be soul killing…..

Just go for it, I recently wrote a blog post about this exact thing.

Never worry what others think, if you have that level of inspiration to start a new project and create a new body of work, don’t hold back.

My blog details how I felt on a beach in the UK, it was crazy… It will take a long time to complete and require me going away from home for a few weeks a year to complete but in my heart it will be worth it.

Follow your intuition and create some great work!

Trust your Gut only if it’s a small project but if you are going to invest a year and there is money to invest in the project then do not trust your gut, that’s crazy, unless you have unlimited amount of time and money, but if you don’t then you have to consider testing before you even start. It’s easy for people to say “Yeah trust your gut, because it’s not their time or money.
One of the biggest mistakes people make is investing time and money on businesses or enterprises that they thought were hits and turned out to be failures, and all because they didn’t do their market research. Do you know if there’s a need for whatever you are going to do? start there.
