Fuji or Olympus

Erik,

I currently do have Ricoh GR II and felt in love with the camera. Recently my relatively young Ricoh GR II died on me. Due to a lack of cycles from Ricoh for their GRs, I was thinking to give a try to some different equipment. Your Equipment blog page highly recommends FUJI X100F and you also highly speak of Olympus PEN-F.  I was wondering what would your recommend to upgrade Ricoh GR II so there are no regrets?

Thank you,

Michael

Hey Michael,

I can’t speak for Olympus but I currently shoot a Fuji xt1… used to own the x100t and they really are fantastic cameras… they have completely changed my workflow too… 95% of the time I shot jpeg and post work is very very minimal… I’ll shoot RAW for my paid portrait shoots but the jpegs have got me to a place I’ve wanted for a long time… shoot…. hardly never do post and jobs done.

I’d be interested in what others have to say but personally Fuji ticks all the boxes for me.

Hope this helps a little

Thank you! I did have a chance to play with Fuji cameras in BH. Really nice cameras!

Hey Mike, Eric here. I shot both, and honestly if I can choose one, I’d prefer the Olympus Pen F. I prefer the styling, build quality, and the auto focus is faster to me. I also think the Pen F looks cooler. Sad to hear about your ricoh, hope you enjoy the Olympus!

Hey Michael, eric here (again). I updated my suggestion:

For black and white Olympus Pen F

for color, Fujifilm. Also check out the Fujifilm XT20, the cheaper one, with the same sensor

Damn it’s hard, so much good gear out there. I’ll think more about your question, and blog about it.

Eric, you have a good point! First time I did put my hands on the olypmus Pen F I did like it a lot. But when I wanted to shoot a macro (just for fun) – I was lost in menu options so badly that even the sales person couldn’t help me… Olympus x100F – is a bit bigger but nicely done. Better joystick, focus picking, colors, menu options. I am debating whether I need the interchangeable lenses. Ricoh changed my mind for good in terms of lenses!
